Among the most important things people want to know when they think it is the time to reduce some of their daily food consumption is which diet is the best. Although we are all from different backgrounds, we all share a common objective: a diet that can make us thin the fastest time possible. Some sort of miracle pill or organic plant that makes fat go away and never to return again! That’s actually the second part of the magic: how to make sure that all the fat eliminated through dieting stays lost for good.
Due to the numerous diet plans published in reading materials and online, most people are confused rather than educated when it comes to dieting bringing about positive physical changes to their body. The sheer number of overweight people has turned weight loss into a billion dollar industry and it is growing bigger every year! The trend seems to highlight that all one needs is a fashionable idea and a marketing edge in order to make a lot of money or gain almost instant publicity by showcasing some otherworldly diet, despite their lack of professional calibre.
The fact that there are a lot of diets programs out there doesn’t help either. We’re going to highlight here only the most well-known diets. A review of all the diets promoted throughout the industry would only add more noise to the already blurred picture. We have no intention to make the situation worse!
The Atkins Diet

Undeniably, the Atkins diet is one of the most popular diet plans. Assisted by numerous articles praising its extraordinary results, in addition to the numerous correspondences from satisfied customers it’s no wonder that the Atkins diet is one of the most successful.
One major plus point of the Atkins diet is that it lets you eat relatively fatty dairy products like butter and cheese. However, the Atkins diet has fallen in popularity recently over suspicions of increasing the risk of coronary diseases. In addition to that, there are also reported cases of stomach discomfort, weakness, muscle cramps and skin irritation. Nevertheless, the scientific discussion with regards to the Atkins diet still rages on til this very day.
The Jenny Craig Diet

One of the oldest diet programs, Jenny Craig started operating in the early 80s and it still exits to this day. The basic idea of this diet is a trade off: you won’t need to be bothered about choosing recipes, do grocery shopping and even cooking.
Instead you need to purchase the Jenny Craig prepackaged food. And it’s not cheap either, the costs can run to roughly $100 per week! Add the membership costs, vegetables and fruits expenses (not included in the prepackaged food) it actually costs more than a typical household diet.
That said, if you can afford it and if you are disciplined enough to stick to it, the diet is quite good. However do consider the fact that similar low-calorie foods can be bought off the shelf without the need to prior discussion with a Jenny Craig representative that insists on consuming the prepackaged food because he gets a cut from your purchase.
The Zone Diet

The Zone diet is another reknown diet program. This diet is the result of studies conducted by Barry Sears and it focuses on eating the right combination of foods to achieve optimal hormonal balance. This state of equilibrium, which is called the “Zone”, lets the body optimally consume calories and use them throughout the day without putting anything aside as fat.
Nevertheless, the Zone diet applies some serious discrimination among foods without any scientific basis. Starchy vegetables, whole grains and beans are considered “bad”, although these foods are not contradictory with the principles of the diet. The American Heart Association has issued a statement regarding the Zone diet which basically says that it lacks essential nutrients at the expense of over-promoting high-protein foods.
The South Beach Diet

One of the most controversial diet due to it’s attempt to pursue the right idea with the wrong approach. Bear in mind however, it’s not that the South Beach diet can’t work… on the contrary, it does; as thousands can attest to.
However, the fundamental question is: can you really stick to it? The initial stagee of the diet will eliminate most foods containing carbohydrates from your daily consumption. Luckily though, this phase lasts only for a fortnight.
Unfortunately, second phase focuses on a poorly implimented total consumption of only whole grains and fruits and lasts ad infinitum. If reaching your desired weight takes you one year, then that is exactly how long you’ll be stuck in this phase. Worse still, if you don’t like the strict food regiment allowed by this diet then you’re out of luck as there are no alternatives.
Weight Watchers

Weight Watchers has been around so long that your grandparents would probably know about it off the bat. Far from being obsolote, Weight Watchers is actually one of the better diet programs around due to the fact that it empowers the participant with all the weight management tools he needs.
If you are really devoted to losing weight, you have all the information you need to execute the plan. It helps that you’ll also have the comfort and support from a lot of people who are going through the exact same thing. If having companionship during trying times helps your willpower, then you are probably on the way to lose those unwanted pounds. On the other hand, if peer pressure is more of a demotivational factor, then Weight Watchers might not be suitable for you.
By sharing this short review, we’ve identified some of the most popular and successful diets out there. There are literally hundreds of other diets out there but the best thing to do when choosing a diet is to study it as thoroughly as possible.
Observer the feedback from people who have tried it. Then consult your doctor or dietitian to see what they have to say about it. Between those waxing lyrical and those trying to prove the diet lacks merit you can probably discover the truth yourself. Nevertheless, pay special attention to what medical professionals have to say. If they tell you a certain diet bears a certain risk to your body then think twice before giving it a go.
